Zip - new name for Oyster for 11-15 year olds in London
Zip is the new name for Oyster photocards for young people in London. All 11-15 year olds from 1st June 2008 must carry an Oyster photocard with them to travel free on buses and trams, and touch in as they board a bus or at the tram stop before boarding a tram. If they do not, they will be liable for a penalty fare.,The changes are to clarify the free travel privilege and bring together the different young persons' free travel schemes under one recognised branded card. It is also expected to make it easier to catch those few individuals who seek to abuse the scheme.
