The Welsh Assembly's Enterprise and Learning Committee has completed its scrutiny inquiry on the Draft Learner Travel (Wales) Measure and presented its findings to the Deputy First Minister.,The National Assembly has the scope to legislate for travel to school and for post 16 learners but cannot legislate for matters that are the responsibility of the Department for Transport e.g. vehicle standards, licensing, inspection etc. It is proposing, among other things, a two mile walking distance for primary age pupils and three miles for secondary age pupils, a code of conduct for school transport, and local authority powers to vary school session times.
