The Government has announced that the proposed vetting and barring registration scheme will be halted. The scheme was due to start on the 26th July, but will be 'remodelled'.
The changes to the scheme do not affect school transport - for driver and escorts with extensive access to vulnerable children enhanced CRB checks will remain in place. However, the extended scheme would have brought parents signing up to car share within scope. A rethink could therefore be good news for those promoting school travel plans and encouraging car sharing for the journey to school.
