Ireland - concerns over school bus safety

Posted on 15/07/2008 by Sian

The Independent in Ireland has reported that more than 2,000 written warnings have been issued by transport inspectors in the past four years over mechanical faults and other deficiences in the country's aged school bus fleet.

The school transport inspections are part of a three-tiered system of inspection which includes random maintenance checks and statutory road worthiness checks. However, the Independent says there are concerns about the frequency of checks and the standards of school buses.
