French contain school transport costs with a four day week

Ten million French school children are returning to school, to a four day week. Primary and secondary pupils will no longer be required to attend classes on Saturday and, as most schools are closed on Wednesdays, will have a four day week. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article4663264.ece

The change has been welcomed by many parents. A proposal by the Education Minister to have classes on Wednesday morning instead was resisted by local councils due to the additional costs of catering and transport. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1564587/French-school-revolution-creates-four-day-week.html
